I have always known I wanted to work in healthcare. What really drew me to massage therapy was how it encompasses both the treatment of conditions and ailments, as well as supporting general well-being. The World Health Organization defines health as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Being able to help people achieve their optimal well-being is my goal.
My philosophy in practice is to treat with a balance between using techniques to address any injuries or ailments, as well as creating a sense of calm and activating the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system. When clients are calm and relaxed, it can result in a treatment that is beneficial both physically and mentally.
Areas of focus in my practice include, but are not limited to: head and face massage; headache and migraine therapy; cervical spine manipulations (neck pain and injury treatment); TMJ (jaw) massage; whiplash and whiplash-associated disorders; low back and hip pain; cupping therapy; post-concussion care; preventative maintenance; scoliosis and postural issues; iliotibial band syndrome; pain management; pregnancy massage; wellness massage; home care; and stretching.
I have taken a wide variety of continuing education courses over the years, ranging from cupping therapy, concussion assessment, craniosacral training, nerve flossing, deep tissue techniques, and 200-hour yoga teacher certification.
